Inside the Studio

The studio has a warm & inviting feel designed to make you feel at ease. It has been designed from the ground up as a pure Yoga facility and includes:

· Soft infra-red heating for hot yoga (32 degrees)

· Integral extractor fans for non-heated yoga (21 degrees)

· Special lighting circuits for Yoga moods (no daylight)

· Steel welded ceiling rings for Ariel Yoga

· Mirror wall to check alignment

· Studio rated speakers

· Amazing aroma’s to calm your spirit

Having studied yoga studios around the world we’ve created this one to bring you all the good stuff. It’s best to book your class (Click here) online before you arrive, and it’s important to arrive before class begins, so that you can be acknowledged on entry and relax before we start.

On entering you’ll declutter – any woes are left at the door, because our long, thin corridor is wide enough only for you to enter alone.

When you enter the lobby, your shoes go in the wooden shoe rack, any bags in the white cupboard and coats on the multi-coloured hooks. Where the floor changes colour you’ll be “Barefoot on the Bamboo”.

The front door is locked for security reasons when the class starts.

We provide mats, blocks, bolsters and straps but if you wish to bring your own you are than welcome. All you really need is soft comfortable clothing which you can move freely in.

Water can be brought inside if you wish but traditional Yoga builds heat from within and water cools this internal heat so it is recommended to drink water 1 hour before your practice rather than cooling the internal momentum of the practice. But, this is your choice.

Additional studio features

The studio also has facilities including two showers.

We have a fridge with chilled drinks for your refreshment. 🙂

Now, relax enjoy your practice!

Meet the Team

(Founder of abaYoga, Chris Abay)

Hi, I’m Chris!

I’ve journeyed around the world, clocking up plenty of life experiences along the way. After swapping the hustle and bustle of London for the golden shores of Sydney, I discovered Power Living Australia Yoga (PLAY). I have since invested several hundred hours training with top teachers around the world.

Now back in the UK, I’ve turned my back on corporate life. Devoting 100% of my time imparting the lessons I continue to learn from my yoga training and travels, to helping other stressed-out and time-strapped individuals to practice yoga at their own pace.

My teaching style is compassionate, patient, and adventurous, and I enjoy nothing more than helping students gently progress through their practice.

Hi, I’m Jo!

Born & bred in Sanderstead, I now manage AbaYoga with Chris (amongst other projects) and love every moment.

I went to my first yoga class in the autumn of 2011. I have enjoyed going to regular classes ever since. I have made friends and met so many interesting people through yoga classes, workshops and retreats.

Yoga replenishes me, keeps me balanced, reminds me to live in the moment and to challenge myself both on and off my mat.

For me yoga, being at the beach, chocolate and musicals ‘these are a few of my favourite things’ 😉

I look forward to welcoming you to AbaYoga when I am at the reception desk.

Hi, I’m Becky!

Yoga found me in my late teens and I quickly fell in love with the sense of contentment and focus it gave me, a great contrast to my busy corporate working life.

I trained with Ruth White over 10 years ago who was a student of BKS Iyengar, possibly the most influential Yoga master of our time which directly impacted my teacher training journey and I’ve since completed many add on courses.

Life is no less busy now I’m also a mum and being a yoga student and teacher continues to keep me grounded . My teaching style is inspired by all my many teachers, I offer enthusiastic encouragement and challenges in a safe environment, keeping classes fun and varied.

Hope to see you on the mat soon.

(Pilates Teacher)

Hi, I’m Coleen!

I was drawn to Pilates 15 years ago after having my own body issues which ultimately led me to train as a Pilates instructor, initially in matwork and then Pilates equipment.

Through Pilates equipment training I really discovered my body, it’s limitations and also it’s incredible responsiveness when always coming back to neutral spine. Soon afterwards the misalignments in my body began to realign.

The majority of us have something we either would like to improve in our body or have pain we suffer daily that we would like not to feel anymore. I know my calling in life is to help others feel better, holistically through body and mind.

Hi, I’m Jo!

I am a Vinyasa yoga teacher who started my yoga journey many moons ago whilst working in the fashion industry.

It was during this time that I started to study and practice yoga and quickly discovered the incredible benefits that the practice has on the mind, body and soul. I’ve always had a passion for movement and been curious as to how dynamic movement has the ability to change ones feelings and outlook on current situations.

Yoga has taught me so much about myself and who I am as a person. I have a deep interest in Positive Psychology and my weekly classes are infused with the concept of growth mindset and the power of the word “yet”.

My class involves intelligent, thoughtful sequencing with some extracts of Power Yoga infused with mindful breathing. My class caters to all levels who enjoy a challenge and is not afraid to be curious.

Hi, I’m Debi!

I have practised yoga for most of my adult life and became so much more in love with yoga and all its history after a trip to India which lead me into teacher training.

I trained with Simon Low at Yoga Academy, accredited with the British wheel and yoga alliance. My classes are adapted to your ability and will challenge your body and mind but are always vibrant and fun. I teach an emphasis on safe alignment, with a deep understanding of anatomy and how the body moves. Weaving strength, flexibility, pranayama (breathing) and a deep rooting on the true essence of yoga and its philosophy into every class.

When I’m not teaching I love to study and attend anatomy and yoga workshops frequently. I’m always a student of Yoga.

I love animals and work with charities to improve animal welfare. I live in Banstead with my gorgeous dogs Pushca and Archie.

Hi, I’m Jayne!

I grew up in Wales but I’ve lived in Purley for 30 years now.

After falling in love with Yoga eight years ago my daughter encouraged me to do my yoga teacher training whilst on our travels together in Bali. I’ve never looked back.

Now, my mat is my place to just “be”, my practice helps me become present and quietens my mind. Yoga nourishes, grounds, enriches and brings me inner peace, sharing this with my students has become my passion.

No matter what your background, I’ve learned that Yoga is for everyone. I hope you’ll join us on the mat soon.

Much love, Jayne

Hi, I’m Junior!

Born and raised on the soils of South London with a background in performing, I was introduced to yoga 10 years ago and it has enabled me to become stronger, flexible and fearless in my approach to life both on & off the mat.

My classes are fun with a dash of sass and playfulness. I combine a mixture of styles in classes from my continual training in Ashtanga, Mandala & Shamanism, Rocket, Yin Yoga, Forrest & Qi gong I’m also deeply into energy healing using the method of sound tools & gong baths. Alongside Reiki and Thai Massage.

As much as I’m a teacher I’m also a forever a yoga student.

Hi, I’m Linda!

I’m a local girl having lived in South London all my life. Yoga found me through my husband who was using it to manage a back condition. I practiced for 15 years with him while working a “normal” job in a corporate environment.

A few years ago, after a series of family crises, I decided to reprioritise my life. I gave up the city job, and retrained as a yoga teacher. It was the best decision I ever made! I trained initially in London, and then topped up my training in India.

I continue to take workshops and trainings to develop my teaching skills. Apart from loving yoga, I also dance a bit, and my yoga style reflects this with lots of flowing movement.

Hi, I’m Liz!

I love being a yoga student, the practice enables me to feel free, strong and guided. It has such a positive impact on my life and well being so becoming a teacher happened organically and I haven’t looked back since.

I have trained with Stewart Gilchrist and Dylan Ayaloo. I have a friendly and attentive approach to teaching. My classes are dynamic, aiming to leave you feeling energised and rejuvenated. They provide a good balance of strength, stillness and philosophy, giving you the chance to connect your mind, body and spirit.

I am so grateful for my teachers and very happy to be sharing the practice. I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
